A division of Madison Square Garden, Radio
City Entertainment, is a wing of Cablevision family of companies.
Radio City Entertainment presents and promotes live entertainment
events at Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, and
the Theater at Madison Square Garden. In addition, Radio City
Entertainment develops events and attractions that appear
nationally and internationally. Radio City Entertainment produces
A Christmas Carol and the world-renowned Radio City Christmas
Spectacular, the National Tour of The Scarlet Pimpernel and
co-produces the Broadway musical Footloose.
The Stage of Radio City Music Hall, which later became a very
innovative and technically advanced stage ever constructed
was designed by Peter Clark. The stage measures 66.5 feet
deep and a full city block wide (144 feet). A variety of special
effects can be created on it, including dense fog and rain,
but perhaps the most impressive element is its elevator system.
The stage is comprised of four elevators, each capable of
being lowered 27 feet in the basement or raised 13 feet above
the level of the stage. At the time of the Christmas Spectacular,
the elevator system adds to the audience's delight as the
Radio City Orchestra appears in front of the stage, disappears
under the stage only to reappear high up in the back of the
stage!
Radio City Music Hall is a landmark, an archetypal example
of the infinite creativity, style architecture and décor
that is remains throughout Madison Square. Radio City Music
Hall is one of the largest indoor theaters in America and
is home to the world-famous Rockettes chorus line.
The most striking feature of the theater is the design of
the arch that hangs suspended above the stage. The arch represents
a sun setting over the sea designed in the rounded Art Deco
style that was popular when the theater opened in 1932. Visitors
can learn more about Radio City Music Hall by taking a one-hour
tour that begins at the corridor after every 1/2 hour.
The Radio City Music Hall is known to conduct some very special
outings
